 Travel Tips:

  • Check the country where you will be traveling to see if you need a Visa or if your passport will suffice

  • Always pack and identification tag in your suitcase that matches the information on the attached tag in case the attached one gets ripped off in transport

  • When celebrating an occasion like an engagement, honeymoon, anniversary, or other make sure to mention it while traveling and some places will celebrate with you by providing a free glass of champagne or a special treat.

  • Certain countries have laws around photography. In Paris, photographing the Eiffel Tower at night is considered illegal because the lights have copyrights on them. In parts of Great Britain, you aren’t allowed to photograph buildings or people unless you’re on public land. Certain beaches don’t allow photography at all around the world. Etc. Check where you are going about photography rules to avoid getting in trouble.

  • Power outlets vary around the world. Check what type of adapter you will need depending on where you are going.

  • Tipping also varies around the world. It is customary here in the U.S. and North America but isn’t in Europe. You will want to check on the country you are visiting for customary procedure around tipping and the services where you will want to tip or where you will be okay not tipping on top of your bill.

  • Always check on vaccinations you will need to visit certain areas. There are lots of diseases that you can pick up while traveling, so it is best to try to prevent spreading that whenever possible.

  • Always make sure you are hydrated when traveling. Changes in altitude can dehydrate the body. When you are flying, it is especially important to stay hydrated and it will help when dealing with jetlag.

  • Always notify banks and credit card companies when traveling. If they start seeing abnormal activity in a different place from where you live, they can shut your card down and no one wants that while you are away from home.

  • Keep copies of passports and documents separate from your passport and documents but with you while you travel just in case you lose your information. Also, keep a hard copy of your hotel, rental car, airfare, travel insurance, and any other travel related items with you in case you are unable to use technology.

  • Keep a list of important phone numbers with you at all times in case your phone gets stolen. Having a hard copy of your bank/credit card contact, emergency contacts, local passport office to where you are, and any other numbers you may need while away from home.

  • Check with your cell phone provider when traveling abroad. You may need to unlock your phone or get a SIM card where you are going but rates can get to be very expensive when traveling internationally.

  • When traveling to another country, be sure to learn some language basics and important phrases to communicate abroad.

  • Travelers usually pay a “Departure Tax” when leaving a country

  • Check your gear before you actually travel to ensure everything is working properly and you won’t run into problems away from home.

  • Most countries will not allow you to enter/leave if your passport is close to expiring. The timeframe varies but make sure your passport is always up to date.
